The strongest emotion I felt at the end of the night was anticipation. Yes, it was great to finally accomplish this event, because we had been planning and preparing for it for a few months. To finally be there, on that stage, with these passionate individuals, was a long time coming. But I couldn't shake this feeling in my head:
"(Making music is) really just apart of who I am. I would listen like everyone else if I had the choice, but for now I don't and I probably won't ever be able to. So, I just use the gift that I have given until it's time to leave earth."
"Don't forget that prophets are not only those who preach from pulpits, but those who are oppressed and on the margins. They are the voices crying out from the wilderness, continuously reminding us that things are not as they should be, enticing and pushing us towards our vocations as healers and redeemers of this world."
"America needs to hear that I am more than what I look, talk, and act like. I am a proud black man in this country, and me and my people aren’t going anywhere. I am here to stand in the gap for those who can’t speak for themselves. Trust and believe, I will never stop talking until I am no longer breathing."
I much prefer to be known as a creator, a music maker. DJ-ing feel like slavery most times. You do what the crowd wants. I’ve never been that type of guy and I always did what I wanted or felt. I love to express myself. Creating and producing music allows me to do just that.
It could be a late-night lounge. It could be an art-education program. It could be a creative curriculum. It could be a social justice platform. It could be a music-and-culture blog, an artistic community, or a recording studio. It could be so many things, but never limited to open mic sessions and poetry.
I’m an origin guy. I love the moment of creation. The grinding parts, the parts where you go back and evaluate and see what can be made better, that’s hard for me. I don’t like the feeling of backtracking.
