Join us for our Fall Signature Session, featuring the Legendary Black Ice!

Our Signature Sessions were created last year as a space for artists to take the stage and become known less as entertainers and more as people. As a mix of local and national traveling artists join us on this stage, we hope for it to be known as a part of what makes The Listening exist.

The Tony, Peabody & Emmy Award winning, 6-time HBO and Broadway Def Poet Black Ice is credited with being a major pioneer of this millennium, turning spoken word into a mainstream Art form.

Bringing to life a quote by business mogul & yogi Russell Simmons, “When I saw Black Ice, I knew the world was ready for poetry.” His work is utilized in high school curricula to course studies at the academically acclaimed Ivy League Universities, Harvard and Columbia. Known for outstanding live performances, he blew away a 1 million plus crowd at the “LIVE 8 WORLD CONCERT” and inspired an overwhelming ovation from the 1⁄2 million people attending the "One Nation Rally". He is the first and only Poet to be featured on BET's Rap City, or to receive the "Hip Hop quotable" in The Source Magazine.

Recognized by many world renowned artist such as Nas, Fabolous and Kendrick Lamar, Black Ice has also collaborated and toured with the likes of The Roots, Floetry, Musiq Soulchild and Mary J. Blige just to name a few. Frequently appearing on TV he brought the audience of The Arsenio Hall Show to their feet, in it’s most reared episode of the 2014 season. TV¬One utilized his legendary spoken word status for their online weekly reviews of each episode during season 2 & 3 for the Lexus presents Verses and Flow. This culminating in featured appearances on season 4 in 2014, as well as the season finale of season 5 in 2015.

With Spoken Word often being employed by commercial high-end labels and brands for advertising, Black Ice has frequently produced voice over spots including clients such as Mercedes Benz, Honda, Heineken, Phat Farm and Courvoisier. Also continuing to be the exclusive voice¬over artist for the audio versions of Russell Simmons books which include “Do You: 12 Laws to Access the Power in You to Achieve Happiness and Success”, “Super Rich: A Guide to Having It All” and “The Happy Vegan” A Guide to Living a Long, Healthy, and Successful Life”.

A legend in the poetry game, Black Ice delivers profound truths with his dynamic and passionate bursts of rhyme and lyrical prose.

Continuing to forge on and push the envelope with the art form, having written the mantra for Under Armour's 2011 basketball line as seen in “Slam”, “Kicks” & “Sports Illustrated magazines as well as online commercial spots. Not to mention his 2013 remake of the classic Gil Scott-Heron single “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, for the major motion picture premiere of “Free Angela – And All Political Prisoners”, a historical documentary produced by Jay¬ Z and Will & Jada Smith.

Whether it's debating at the barbershop, occupying Wall Street, touring with platinum recording artists, or teaching Master Writing Courses in Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and everything between, Black Ice continues to tour the globe, honing his skill in all aspects of his gift with one goal in mind – to transcend Spoken Word into new arenas and set the bar for aspiring wordsmiths around the world. - ArtRules.org
