The Junior League of Lynchburg Partners with The Listening, Inc.

The Junior League of Lynchburg is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the action of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The League has been serving the Lynchburg community since 1926 and is responsible for many area projects including Amazement Square, The Free Clinic of Central Virginia, CASA of Central Virginia, Kids Haven, and Riverside Park Sprayground.

In an effort to develop intentional relationships with other community organizations and the constituents they serve, we developed our community partnership program in 2017. Each year up to 3 community partners are chosen based on applications and league membership devotes their (wo)manpower and some funds to the organization throughout the year. For 2019-2020, The Listening Inc. was chosen as a community partner because of their alignment with our service priorities of children and the arts.

Our hopes are that members will develop deep connections with The Listening and continue being an engaged volunteer with them even after the partnership is over.

The Junior League of Lynchburg provides support by providing volunteers to staff the events and projects of The Listening throughout the year, in addition to a stipend to support these projects. So far this year we have participated in sharing with others about The Listening during Get Downtown, attended the Screen/Shot event, staffed the Signature Session, partnered with the Open Mic Session for our Little Black Dress Campaign, and walked alongside The Listening in the Walk Out of Darkness. We look forward to other opportunities for the partnership to develop throughout the year. Our hopes are that members will develop deep connections with The Listening and continue being an engaged volunteer with them even after the partnership is over.
