Founding Executive Director resigns after near-decade of leadership

It is with a mix of sorrow and gratitude that the Board of Directors announces Nicholas Steven George’s resignation as Executive Director of The Listening, Inc. effective August 31st, 2022.

Since 2013, Nick has played a critical role in the founding, growth and development of the organization and it’s programming, and while we will miss him and his inspiring, captivating, and creative leadership, we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. We want to thank him for the years of dedicated service which involved many significant accomplishments, including:

  • Revitalizing an overlooked and essential component in our City.

  • Growing this organization from an idea to an impactful and inclusive space for creatives.

  • Implementing a multicultural program model that supports students in grades 6-12 and their families.

In the near future, we will be finalizing a secession plan and installing a shared management model to lead a Creative Citizen Leadership Council. This is the vision Nick believes will serve our organization and community the best and the Board is committed to honoring this vision. We share the belief that for our organization to have long-term stability and progress, we need to spread the load evenly. New leaders have been identified and we are still looking to appoint a few more to carry and build on the foundation Nick has laid.

Again, we cannot thank Nick enough for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm, and motivation he has given The Listening since 2013. He will be greatly missed by the staff, Board of Directors, members, and community partners alike. We look forward to following the success of Nick’s impact and are hopeful and excited for the next chapter as we continue to support our community in our important work to “engage, change and save lives with the performing arts.”

If you have any questions or concerns during this transition process, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly at boardofdirectors@welcometothelistening.org.
