Lynchburg, Virginia - In an effort to contribute to the local creative arts scene and build brand awareness as a thought leader within the community, THE LISTENING is excited to announce its inaugural virtual conference, The Poetic Justice Conference, taking place on January 16, 2021. This first-ever virtual conference is being structured as a community experience as well as a creative resource for artists, educators, students, activists and mental health advocates.

The goal of The Poetic Justice Conference is to manifest The Listening’s mission statement to engage, change, and save lives with the performing arts through community engagement and youth programming. Founding Executive Director of The Listening, Nicholas George says, “Many of our supporters are familiar with different elements of our work and programming, and we are excited to bring them all in the same room with each other, even if the room is virtual.” One of The Listening’s Board Members, Vicki Hubbard states that she looks forward to seeing “people being informed, getting energized, knowledge being shared, an understanding gained and a call to action.”

In partnership with Blackwater Branding and Poetic Truth, this virtual event will consist of multiple panels, performances, and breakout sessions from speakers with diverse areas of experience and expertise, such as education, child advocacy, social justice, various art disciplines and mental health. Owner of Poetic Truth LLC, Angelina Randolph, says that this conference will “prepare creatives with tools to push beyond their own art limitations.”

This one-day event will be held completely online for attendees to participate throughout Central Virginia and beyond. This conference exists to offer a resource to train and empower community members who wish to explore how the performing arts can and have been used throughout history to bring attention to social, cultural and interpersonal issues beyond entertainment. Attendance will be limited to the first 100 registrants.

The Listening has begun accepting session presentation proposals, and will continue to do so until Friday, November 13th, 2020. Proposals being considered will be on the topics of the arts as activism, healing, education and community building. By sharing varied perspectives and experiences on the application of the performing arts, attendees have the opportunity to build community with others across industry and background while gaining insight into making a deeper community impact.

Registration will open to the public on Monday, November 30, 2020. For sponsorship opportunities, send us an email here!
