Finding Sanctuary: A Curated Playlist

What does it mean to create a safe space?

For some of us, our home is our safe place. It's where we can let our hair down, kick off our shoes and just be. For others of us, our safe space isn't necessarily a physical location, but a state of mind.

But what happens when neither can be achieved, but both are in need?

At The Listening, we believe that all should have an option for safety and acceptance. At our recent potluck dinner, we were able to bring people together who know what it's like to need not only a sanctuary, but a community as well. But there's something else that we'd like to do.

Our next open mic session is dedicated to those with stories to tell and in need of a place to tell them. Join us on September 22nd at the Old City Cemetery Chapel at 7pm share what your own sanctuary looks like. Hopefully you'll find it with us.

Sanctuary is thought of as a peaceful and sacred notion, but the necessarily precipitating circumstance is anything but those things. So I’ve also made sure the sonic landscape was inclusive enough to include the feeling of an adrenaline-filled lunge through the doors of such sanctuary, heart beating at the thrill of it all. Fresh on the heels of chaos, your newly won sanctuary was not a solo effort, and no one makes it out of life unscathed. With renewed perspective, what’s next?
