DONOR SPOTLIGHT: Charese C.!

Welcome to our Donor Highlight Series! As we get closer to fundraising season, we want to highlight stories of impact. This year has been intense for many, and we are no exception - but we've also been able to lean on our mission. We would like to hear from the community of donors that keep us going - and help us keep the figurative lights on!

Listen to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill on Spotify. Ms. Lauryn Hill · Album · 1998 · 16 songs.

What is your favorite music album/book of all time? Why?

Lauryn Hill’s Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, because it was the first cd I could play back and forth and never grow tired. I related to every song like I had life pains in my sophomore year in high school.

How have the arts made an impact in your life?

Art is a continuum in my life, from artwork, to music, to spoken word. They inspire me and motivate me - helping me to celebrate and reflect in all my life choices. I can pinpoint a song that's aligned with every pivotal moment in my life.

Which one of The Listening’s events or programs are you the most passionate about? Why?

The open mic sessions gives a platform to artists that otherwise would not be on my radar. Underground/Indie Artist is where the pulse of creativity lives.

If you could describe yourself/your organization as a musical instrument, what would it be?

I would be a guitar.

What social issue are you personally most passionate about?

Social inequity.

If you had a room full of people willing to listen to you, what would you say?

Listen to be heard, but act to make change.
